Selection Process

Joint Apprenticeship & Training Committee

For the Plumbing & Steamfitting Industry

It is the intent of this Committee, in perpetuation of the basic skills required in the construction industry, to comply with all Federal and State Standards required in the selection and placement of apprentice applicants. The recruitment, selection, employment and training of apprentices during their apprenticeship shall be without discrimination because of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, age, creed, handicap, marital status, ancestry, sexual orientation, arrest record, conviction record or membership in the military forces of the United States or this State. The sponsor will take affirmative action to provide equal opportunity in apprenticeship and will operate the apprenticeship program as required under Title 29 of the Code of Federal Regulations, Part 30, the Wisconsin Fair Employment Law, and all other applicable State laws.

SUMMARY OF PROCEDURES FOR APPLICATION, QUALIFICATION AND SELECTION OF PLUMBING APPRENTICES

Did you take the ACT test?(Required)

Applicants must have attained the following minimum scores on their ACT tests.

Plumbing:

  • 15 in Math
  • 16 in Reading

Steamfitting:

  • 17 in Math
  • 17 in Reading

If an applicant has not taken the ACT, you will be required to take and pass the Accuplacer test with the minimum scores listed below.
The Accuplacer Test is given at WRTP – Big Step in Racine. Call 262-619-6560 to make an appointment.
Applicant must score the following minimum scores in order to qualify to fill out an Application:
*scores for these tests are valid 5 years

Plumbing:

  • 249 – Reading
  • 237 – Arithmetic
  • 235 – Algebra

Steamfitting:

  • 249 – Reading
  • 250 – Arithmetic
  • 235 – Algebra

Review Before Proceeding:

  • Applicants that receive an Apprenticeship may be required to take a drug test prior to signing their Apprentice Contract
  • Before placement, an employer may require apprentices to submit to a physical examination
